Word from the BCOF President
Marc De Vlieger

Dear Members and Friends,

In name of the entire BCOF team … we wish you all a very healthy, happy and prosperous 2012. I like to take this opportunity to thank all members and friends, here and overseas for your support. Thanks to all who updated already their memberships - 2012. For those who still like to do so … the membership form 2012 is in this letter and in our gazette- “TheFloBel” we are mailing to all members from last year. You can also check the website for all information. http://www.belgian-club-florida.com/ In recent years we have been spoiled with very good news and products made in Belgium. The most fantastic product is still our Belgian Beer. I’m sure some people choose for some other items as the #1 on their list. Our beers are the best in the world!! It’s not just chocolate, or the unbelievable Belgian cooking tricks that make Belgium so special … Yes! We’re doing ok in the world!! More and more Belgian business entrepreneurs are bringing the goodies to this country!! We wish them all the luck!! When I came to Florida in 1979, Belgium was as good as unknown. . Some thought we were the capital of Germany and others made crazy remarks like “Where is Belgium?” That has luckily changed … we’re on the map!! We are proud of Kim Clijsters...and now just in the news…a Belgian movie nominated for an Oscar… speaking of movies.. Stephen Spielberg is making Tin Tin (Kuifje) world famous too... Everybody is discovering the beauty of Belgium in so many different ways. And yes.. The Internet and webcams make us feel like we have never left the homeland and family.

The almost weekly visits we have here in South Florida, from famous and lesser famous Belgians… Yes, South Florida is still the paradise to visit and we enjoy it. It’s a perfect place to buy a vacation home. Prices are still very low. Take advantage of it. We have the people that will help you!!

1987 –2012 …Yes we are celebrating this year “25 years of Belgian club of Florida.” A special event is coming your way.

The Belgian Club of Florida was founded in 1987 by Sir Paul Cuypers, Philippe Boets, Jef Verhelst and myself. Since that time we've always had the great fortune to work with the best volunteers you can imagine. Our main goal to have this club here is to have an open mind and an open door to all Belgians and friends living, visiting, moving, and working here in south Florida. For many Belgians arriving here.. Our Club is the first contact they have.. we do answer a lot of their questions. The club allows them to make their first friends in another world. Now we also have the Dutch language and culture school. It’s second Schoolyear 2011-2012 started off with 22 kids between 4 and 14 years old. People in Business can find their ways around too. A chamber of commerce for south Florida is in the make… So you see. The club is not just something on a website…it’s alive and kicking.

We have again a great event calendar this year..Almost weekly updated. Keep checking!!

First main event. The annual incredible CARNIVAL PARTY in co-production with the Dutch “zonnezotten” !! This year for the first time at Jean Pierre’s Belgian Bistro in Pompano Beach. Sat. February 18. For whose never been at this Carnival event. See the pictures on our website of previous carnival parties. We really hope you join us at this event!

This year we launch our new website. It has been in the works for quite some time. The new website will have tons of features and will serve as an open door for all of your requirements and wishes. We now have access to all of the newest technology available and we are using it! More about this in next newsletter.

We have again lost some good members last year. Our prayers and thoughts will always be with them and the families. The good memories will stay forever and ever deep in our hearts.

And of course we congratulate the ones that got married, the anniversaries. The new babies, the kids who graduated, or all the things that you can think of in a normal family …Yes, we get all the news here in the main office. Like I said earlier. Lets hope we all have a great year .

And to close this letter… makes sure that we have all your latest mailing information! If you have any questions, suggestions, new ideas, events we should know about… Please!! Contact us… let us know!!!

Well that's it for now.

We thank you very kindly for your support.
