On
Thursday, December 02, the Rotary Club of Sarasota Keys, where
Liliane Sealy-Schrock is president, had a special guest speaker, Lieutenant-Colonel
Peter Van den Broucke, an Air Force officer from Belgium.
Peter is working on McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, and gave a
presentation about Human Factors in Military Operations. This
presentation is based on personal experiences during multiple military
missions and focuses on the interaction with the local population and
the importance of cultural awareness when performing military missions
in other countries.
The
Belgian Club of Florida is proud to announce that its President, Marc
De Vlieger, has been honored with the
Order of the Crown by Minister Pieter de Crem for meritorious
service to the Belgian State this November 23, 2010 in Tampa, FL.

This
is also the Belgian Club of Florida....
A member and friend for a very long time "Ann
Granje" and another friend for many years "Alex De Coninck" met
each other for the first time at our own Belgian National day event
last year at Bobby Rubino's in Pompano Beach. I remember that
both were not sure that they were going to make it to the
party.....Alex decided to join us at the last minute....and by
surprise Ann walked in the door too...."Is there somebody here I
know" ...Ann was asking me....and I told her to go sit wit the
single young man Alex - a table he was sharing with Luc
and Hilde de Bock .... Now a year later Ann and Alex have
found real love and are engaged and ready to get married soon.
All the families in Belgium will fly over for the wedding on April
17 2011. Congratulations Ann and Alex ..... We hope to see
you soon at one of our events....

Our member Paula Vermeire (Mother of Tonia Termont and her husband
Larry Duffy) of Boynton Beach is the news!
Paul is the only Belgian at the World Championships of
ShuffleBoard
in Germany. Paul picked up the sports while living in Florida.
Congratulations to Paula and lots of luck for the next big

Beloved husband and father, Howard Hirschhorn,
who unfortunately has not been well enough to attend many functions;
has passed on- October 10,2010 and is deeply missed and survived by
his beloved wife, Nelly and two daughters
Ingrid and Christina, cat
Paprika. Howard, writer of medicine and poetry, was known for his
medical books such as "Miracle Health Secrets From the Old Country,"
"Maredsous Monastery," "Waakhonden (Dutch version of "Training the
Guard Dog,"Soups, A Powerful Mix," and Amazing Treatments of
European doctors.

Guy Cassiers, son-in-law of BCOF members Shelly and
Jeanine Altenhaus, and artistic director of Tonneelhuis is
on his way to Milan, Italy. Find out more about Guy

Guy is also the son of Jef Cassiers, a famous Belgian TV personality of
the sixties that could be seen on the BRT before the news at 8:00pm.

We regret to
inform you that Mr. Dirk Godts, manager of Mr. Toots Thielemans,
has suddenly and abruptly passed away during a concert in the Cape Town
Jazz Festival on the third of April. He had a passion for his work and
committed himself fully for the well-being and comfort for the people
around him. He leaves his wife, son and four daughters, mother,
brother and sisters behind.

Sucaet, the father of our BCOF Board Member Caroline Sucaet.
Our most sincere condolences go to Caroline, her husband Martin Castanon,
